Established since 1997, Hua Gen Chinese School currently has more than one hundred students and many faculty and staff, most of which are parents or college student volunteers.

Research showed that children of young age are much easier to master a second language, and children who learn a second language develop stronger problem solving and analytical skills. Thus the school aims to teach children Chinese language (Mandarin) so that they can learn to listen, speak, read, and write in Chinese. The ultimate goal is to give children a lifetime asset of learning skills.

The classes are divided into multiple levels to fit students of different language proficiency. Besides Chinese, the school offers other fun classes, such as music, arts, calligraphy, dancing, chess, Tai Chi, and soccer etc. Students go to classes every Saturday afternoon at Oak Hall School.
